Part 2 model answer
A change I made recently, which I'm actually quite proud of, is that I've started reading English books for at least thirty minutes every day. I began this habit about two months ago.
Before that, I had a really unhealthy routine. Whenever I had some free time, I'd just grab my phone and scroll through social media without any purpose. My English was improving slowly through IELTS practice, but I noticed that my vocabulary and reading speed weren't getting much better. During a mock test, I ran out of time in the reading section, and that was a real wake-up call for me.
So I decided to make a change. I started small, with simple English novels and short stories that I downloaded as e-books on my phone. Every night before going to sleep, I put my phone on "do not disturb" mode and read for half an hour. Whenever I come across a new word, I note it down along with the sentence, so I can review it later. At first, it was difficult to stay focused, and I often felt sleepy after just ten minutes. But gradually it became easier, and now I actually look forward to it.
I feel really good about this change. My reading speed has definitely improved, and I'm learning lots of natural expressions that I can also use in speaking and writing. Besides that, I've noticed I sleep better because I'm not staring at social media late at night. It might seem like a small change, but it has made a big difference to both my studies and my overall mood.
Part 3 discussion
Why do people find it difficult to make changes in their lives?
Mainly because people are comfortable with their old habits and routines. Change usually requires effort, discipline, and stepping out of their comfort zone. Many people also fear failure or feel unsure about whether the change will be worth it. On top of that, a lack of support from family or friends can make it even harder.
Do you think it is easier for young people to make changes than older people?
Generally, yes. Young people are more flexible and open to trying new things, and they usually have fewer responsibilities. Older people often have fixed routines and may find it harder to break long-term habits. However, older people are sometimes more determined once they decide to change something important.
What kinds of changes do people usually make in their lives?
Common changes include adopting healthier habits, like exercising or eating better. Some people change jobs, move to a new city, or start learning a new skill. Others try to quit bad habits, such as smoking or spending too much time on their phones. Big life events, like marriage or having children, also bring major changes.
Are changes always positive?
Not always. Some changes can bring stress, uncertainty, or even negative results, like moving to a job that turns out to be worse. However, even negative changes can teach valuable lessons and help people grow. So I think change is usually beneficial in the long run, as long as it's carefully thought through.
How has society in your country changed in recent years?
Bangladesh has changed a lot, especially in terms of technology. Mobile banking, online shopping, and internet use have become part of everyday life. More women are now working and studying at higher levels. However, cities have become more crowded, and family relationships are not as close as they used to be.
