Part 2 model answer
Well, I'd like to talk about my grandparents' fiftieth wedding anniversary party, which took place about six months ago at our village home in Comilla. It was honestly one of the most memorable events I've ever attended.
The whole idea was actually a surprise. My uncles, aunts, and cousins secretly planned it for weeks, and we all kept it hidden from my grandparents. On the day, we told them we were just having a small family lunch, but when they came out into the courtyard, there were almost a hundred people waiting, including relatives, old neighbours, and even some of my grandfather's friends from his school-teaching days.
The courtyard was decorated with fairy lights, marigold flowers, and colourful paper lanterns. We had a huge feast with traditional dishes like beef kala bhuna, chicken roast, and polao, and of course a big cake with "50 Years Together" written on it. One of my cousins also made a short video with old family photos showing how my grandparents met and their journey over the years.
What impressed me most was the emotional atmosphere. When the video was played, my grandmother started crying, and my grandfather, who usually never shows his emotions, gave a short speech thanking everyone. It was really touching. It wasn't a fancy or expensive party, but it was full of love and warmth. It made me realise how important family bonds are, and it brought together relatives who hadn't seen each other for years. I think that's why it's still so special to me.
Part 3 discussion
Why do people like to celebrate special events with parties?
I think parties give people a chance to share their happiness with others. Special moments, like weddings or birthdays, feel even more meaningful when friends and family are around. Parties also help people reconnect, especially those who rarely meet because of busy schedules.
What are the differences between parties in the past and parties today?
In the past, parties were usually simple and held at home, with family members cooking the food together. Nowadays, many people hire community centres, caterers, and decorators, so parties have become much more expensive and professional. Also, social media has made people focus a lot on taking photos and videos.
Do you think people spend too much money on parties nowadays?
Yes, in many cases they do. Especially in weddings in Bangladesh, some families spend their entire savings or even take loans just to impress others. I believe celebrations should be about happiness and togetherness, not about showing off wealth.
Are family gatherings still important in modern society?
Absolutely. Even though people are busier and many live far away from their families, gatherings help maintain strong relationships. They also give children a chance to know their relatives and learn about family traditions, which I think is really valuable.
Why do some people prefer small parties to large ones?
Small parties are more relaxed and personal. You can actually talk to everyone properly, rather than just saying hello to hundreds of guests. They're also cheaper and less stressful to organise. Introverted people especially tend to feel more comfortable in smaller groups.
