Part 2 model answer
Well, my least favourite movie has to be "Transformers: Age of Extinction". It's a Hollywood science-fiction action film, the fourth one in the Transformers series.
I watched it a few years ago at a cinema hall in Dhaka with a group of my friends. We were really excited at first because the earlier Transformers movies were quite popular, and the trailer looked amazing, with huge robots, explosions, and dinosaur-like machines. So we bought our tickets in advance and expected to have a great time.
The story is basically about giant alien robots who are being hunted by humans, and a mechanic and his daughter who get caught up in the conflict. That sounds fine, but honestly, the plot was all over the place. There were so many characters and side stories that after a while, I completely lost track of what was going on.
The main reason I didn't like it was that it was far too long and repetitive. It's nearly three hours, and most of it is just non-stop fighting and explosions. After the first hour, it actually became boring, because every scene felt the same. The characters also didn't have much depth, so I didn't really care about what happened to them. By the end, my friends and I were checking the time and just waiting for it to finish. It taught me a lesson that big budgets and special effects can't make up for a weak story. Since then, I always read reviews before going to the cinema.
Part 3 discussion
Why do some movies get bad reviews but still make a lot of money?
Mainly because of strong marketing and big stars. If a movie has famous actors or is part of a popular series, people will watch it anyway, regardless of reviews. Also, action movies with lots of special effects attract audiences worldwide, because they don't depend much on language or culture.
Do you think film reviews are useful?
Yes, to some extent. Reviews give a general idea of the story and quality, which helps people decide how to spend their money and time. But taste is very personal, so a movie that critics dislike might still be enjoyable for some people. I think it's best to read a few reviews rather than rely on just one.
What makes a good movie?
In my opinion, a strong story is the most important thing. Good acting, realistic characters, and meaningful dialogue also matter a lot. Special effects and music can make a movie more exciting, but if the story is weak, the audience will quickly lose interest.
Do people prefer watching movies at home or in the cinema nowadays?
These days, more people watch movies at home because of streaming platforms like Netflix and Chorki. It's cheaper and more comfortable. However, for big action or blockbuster movies, many people still prefer the cinema, because the large screen and sound system create a much better experience.
Should the government support the local film industry?
Yes, I think it should. Local films reflect a country's culture, language, and social issues, so they're important for national identity. In Bangladesh, the film industry has struggled to compete with foreign films, so government funding, better cinema halls, and training for filmmakers could really help it grow.
