Part 2 model answer
Let me tell you about the time I saved up to buy my first good smartphone. This happened about two years ago, and it's honestly one of the purchases I'm most proud of.
At that time, I was using a really old phone that had a cracked screen and a battery that barely lasted half a day. Since I don't have a computer, my phone is basically my entire workspace. I use it for studying, designing, managing my projects, and everything else. So the old phone was slowing me down a lot, and I really needed a better one with more storage and a faster processor.
The phone I wanted cost around thirty-five thousand taka, which was a big amount for me. I didn't want to ask my parents, so I made a proper plan. First, I started doing some small freelance work, like designing posters and social media posts for local shops. Second, I cut down on unnecessary spending. For example, I stopped eating out with friends so often and avoided buying snacks every day. I kept all my savings in a separate bKash account so I wouldn't be tempted to spend it. It took me around seven months to collect the full amount.
When I finally bought the phone, I felt an amazing sense of achievement. It wasn't just a new gadget; it was the result of my own hard work and discipline. I also learned the value of money and how small savings can add up over time. Even now, I take extra care of that phone, because I know exactly how much effort went into buying it.
Part 3 discussion
Why do some people find it difficult to save money?
One reason is that living costs are rising, so many people barely have anything left after paying for basic needs. Another reason is impulse buying, especially with online shopping and constant advertisements. Some people also simply lack financial planning skills.
Should children be taught how to save money?
Absolutely. Learning to save at a young age builds good habits for the future. Parents can give children a small amount of pocket money and encourage them to save part of it in a piggy bank. This teaches them patience and the value of money.
Is it better to save money or spend it on experiences?
I think a balance is ideal. Saving is important for emergencies and future goals, like education or buying a house. But spending money on experiences, such as travelling with family, can create memories that last a lifetime. So people should save regularly but still enjoy life a little.
How has digital payment changed the way people save and spend money?
Digital payments like bKash and Nagad have made transactions very quick and convenient. But because people don't physically see cash leaving their hands, they often spend more without realising it. On the positive side, many apps now offer savings features, which make saving easier too.
Do young people today spend more money than older generations?
Generally, yes. Young people are more influenced by trends, social media, and brands, so they spend more on things like gadgets, clothes, and eating out. Older generations grew up with fewer resources, so they tend to be more careful and value saving more highly.
