Part 2 model answer
In a busy city like Dhaka, it's not easy to find natural places, but one spot I really love is Ramna Park. It's located right in the heart of the city, near Shahbagh, and it's one of the oldest and largest parks in Dhaka.
I usually go there at least twice a month, mostly early in the morning on weekends, when the park is at its most peaceful. Sometimes I go alone, and sometimes with my younger brother.
The park has a large lake in the middle, surrounded by tall, old trees, flower beds, and long walking paths. Normally, I start with a brisk walk around the lake, which takes about half an hour. After that, I like to sit on one of the benches under the shade and either read something on my phone or just watch what's happening around me. It's quite interesting, actually, because you see people doing all sorts of things, like elderly people doing yoga, groups of friends laughing, and even some people practising singing. Every year on Pohela Boishakh, the Bengali New Year, the park also becomes the centre of a huge cultural celebration.
The main reason I enjoy visiting is that it gives me a break from the chaos of the city. Dhaka is full of traffic jams, honking, and pollution, but inside Ramna, it suddenly feels calm and green. The fresh morning air really clears my mind, and I always come back feeling refreshed and more productive. It's like a small escape without having to travel far.
Part 3 discussion
Why are parks and green spaces important in cities?
They act like the lungs of a city, because trees help reduce air pollution and heat. They also give people a place to exercise, relax, and socialise. For children especially, parks are essential, since many city homes don't have any open space to play.
Do you think there are enough green spaces in cities today?
Not really, especially in fast-growing cities like Dhaka. Many open spaces have been replaced by buildings and roads because of rapid urbanisation. As a result, people have very few places to breathe fresh air or relax outdoors. Planners should definitely give more priority to green areas.
Who should be responsible for maintaining parks?
Mainly the city authorities, because they have the funds and staff to keep parks clean and safe. However, the public also has a responsibility. If visitors throw rubbish or damage plants, even the best-maintained park will suffer. Local communities can also organise cleaning drives.
What activities do people usually do in parks?
In the mornings, many people go jogging, walking, or doing yoga. In the afternoons and evenings, families bring their children to play, and friends gather to chat or have picnics. Some parks also host cultural events, like concerts or festivals, especially during holidays.
How can cities become more environmentally friendly?
Cities can plant more trees, create rooftop gardens, and protect existing lakes and wetlands. Improving public transport would also reduce car use and air pollution. Encouraging recycling and using renewable energy, like solar panels on buildings, would make a big difference too.
