Part 2 model answer
I'd like to talk about my uncle, Mr. Habib, who is my father's younger brother. He's a retired government officer, and if there's one thing everyone in our family knows about him, it's that he's absolutely obsessed with history.
I've known him all my life, of course, but I really started noticing his passion when I was a teenager. Whenever we visited his house, he would tell us stories about the Mughal emperors, the British colonial period, or our Liberation War in 1971. The way he told them was so vivid that it felt like watching a movie.
He learns about history in many different ways. His house is full of books, some of them really old and rare, which he has collected from second-hand bookshops in Nilkhet over the years. He also watches documentaries, follows history channels on YouTube, and, what I find most interesting, he actually travels to historical sites. For example, he has visited Sonargaon, Mahasthangarh, and Paharpur more than once, and he always takes notes and photos to remember the details.
I think he loves history because he believes it helps us understand who we are. He often says that without knowing the past, we can't make sense of the present. Also, his own father, my grandfather, was a freedom fighter, so history feels very personal to him. Spending time with him has definitely made me more curious about the past too. Thanks to him, I no longer see history as a boring school subject, but as a collection of real human stories.
Part 3 discussion
Why do some people find history boring?
Mostly because of the way it's taught in schools. Students are often forced to memorise dates and names without understanding the stories behind them. If history were taught through storytelling, films, or field trips, I think far more young people would find it interesting.
Is it important for children to learn history?
Yes, very important. History helps children understand their country's culture, values, and identity. It also teaches them lessons from past mistakes, such as wars and injustice, so they can make better decisions in the future. In Bangladesh, learning about the Liberation War also builds a sense of patriotism.
What is the best way to learn about history?
I think visiting historical places is the most effective way, because seeing things in person makes history feel real. Museums and documentaries are also great options. Reading books is useful too, but people should choose reliable sources, since history can sometimes be presented in a biased way.
Can we trust everything we read in history books?
Not completely. History is often written by people with their own perspectives, and sometimes by those in power, so certain facts may be exaggerated or left out. That's why it's a good idea to compare different sources and think critically before accepting everything as true.
How can technology help people learn about history?
Technology has made history much more accessible and engaging. People can now take virtual tours of museums, watch high-quality documentaries, and access digital archives for free. Some apps even use virtual reality to recreate historical events, which makes learning far more interactive.
