Part 2 model answer
The most crowded place I've ever been to has to be Kamalapur Railway Station in Dhaka, just two days before Eid-ul-Fitr last year. If you've never experienced Dhaka during the Eid rush, it's honestly hard to imagine.
I went there because my family and I were travelling to our village home to celebrate Eid with our grandparents. Every year, millions of people leave Dhaka at the same time to go back to their hometowns, so the roads, bus stations, and train stations become unbelievably packed.
When we arrived at the station early in the morning, it was already a sea of people. There were families carrying huge bags, children crying, vendors shouting, and porters pushing through the crowd with luggage on their heads. Even finding our platform was a challenge. When the train finally arrived, people rushed towards it, and some were even climbing onto the roof, which looked really dangerous. Luckily, we had booked our tickets online in advance, so we managed to get our seats, although it took us nearly twenty minutes just to squeeze through the door.
To be honest, I had mixed feelings about the crowd. On one hand, it was exhausting and a bit scary, because it was so hot and hard to move, and I was constantly worried about losing my bag or getting separated from my family. But on the other hand, there was a strange sense of joy in the air. Everyone was excited to go home and see their loved ones. So despite all the chaos, it felt like part of the Eid experience, and when we finally reached the village, all that stress just melted away.
Part 3 discussion
Why do some people enjoy being in crowded places?
Some people find crowds exciting and full of energy, especially at concerts, festivals, or sports matches. Being part of a big crowd can create a sense of belonging and shared excitement. Extroverted people, in particular, tend to enjoy lively and busy environments.
What are the dangers of crowded places?
The biggest danger is stampedes, where people can get seriously injured or even killed if a crowd panics. Crowded places also make it easier for pickpockets and thieves to operate. And of course, diseases can spread more quickly, as we saw during the COVID pandemic.
How can authorities manage large crowds?
They can deploy more security staff and police, set up clear entry and exit points, and use barriers to control movement. Online ticketing and scheduling can also reduce pressure. In big events, using CCTV cameras and loudspeaker announcements helps keep people informed and safe.
Why are cities becoming more crowded?
Mainly because people move from rural areas to cities in search of jobs, better education, and healthcare. In Bangladesh, most opportunities are concentrated in Dhaka, so millions move there every year. Population growth also adds to the problem.
Do you think crowded places will become more common in the future?
Probably yes, as populations keep growing and more people move to cities. However, technology like online shopping, remote work, and digital services might reduce the need for people to gather in physical places. Better urban planning could also help spread people out more evenly.
