Part 2 model answer
Well, I'd like to talk about a gift I'm planning to buy for my close friend Rafi. We've known each other since primary school, so he's more like a brother to me than just a friend.
The gift I have in mind is a good-quality pair of wireless earbuds. Rafi is a huge music lover, and he listens to songs almost all day, whether he's studying, travelling on the bus, or even going for a morning walk. But the problem is that his current earphones are really old and the wires are all tangled and damaged. Every time we meet, he complains that one side doesn't work properly, so I thought this would be a really practical and thoughtful gift.
The main reason I want to buy it is that his birthday is coming up next month, and he has always been there for me during tough times. For example, when I was preparing for an important exam last year, he stayed up late with me and helped me revise. So I really want to give him something he'll actually use every day, rather than something that just sits on a shelf.
I'm fairly sure he'll be over the moon when he opens it. He's not the type of person who asks for anything, so I think it'll be a lovely surprise for him. And honestly, seeing him happy will make me feel just as good. I'm already saving up a bit of money each week, so hopefully I'll be able to get a decent brand before his birthday.
Part 3 discussion
Why do people give gifts to each other?
Mainly to show love, respect, or gratitude. A gift is a simple way to tell someone they're important to us. In our culture, gifts are also a big part of celebrations like Eid, weddings, and birthdays, so it's almost a social tradition as well.
Do you think expensive gifts are always better?
Not at all. I believe the thought behind a gift matters much more than its price. A handwritten letter or something handmade can be far more meaningful than an expensive watch. Sometimes, very expensive gifts can even make the receiver feel uncomfortable or obliged.
Is it better to give money or a gift?
It depends on the situation. Money is practical because people can buy whatever they actually need, for example at weddings. But a gift feels more personal and shows that you've put some effort into choosing it. So for close friends, I'd personally prefer giving a gift.
How has online shopping changed the way people buy gifts?
It has made it far more convenient. People can now compare prices, read reviews, and send gifts directly to someone's home, even in another city. On the other hand, I feel it has made gift-giving a bit less personal, because people don't spend as much time searching for something special.
Do companies give gifts to their employees in your country?
Yes, some do, especially during festivals like Eid, when many companies give a bonus or small gift packages. Larger companies sometimes reward high-performing staff with gifts or vouchers. I think it's a smart idea because it boosts employee morale and loyalty.
