Part 2 model answer
One evening that really stands out in my memory is a rooftop get-together I had with four of my close friends just last month. It was right after we had all finished a stressful round of exams, so we felt we really deserved a break.
We met on the rooftop of my friend Sakib's building in Mirpur. It's quite a spacious rooftop with a few plants and an amazing view of the city lights at night. We decided not to go to any expensive restaurant; instead, we wanted something simple and relaxed.
So, we each brought something along. One friend brought a portable speaker, another brought snacks like chanachur and jhalmuri, and Sakib's mother kindly made us a big pot of tea and some homemade chicken rolls. As the sun went down, we sat on mats, played music, and chatted about everything, from our exam disasters to our future plans. Later, we played a few rounds of a card game called Uno, which turned out to be hilarious because one of my friends kept losing and getting really competitive.
What made the evening so enjoyable was how natural and carefree it felt. There was no pressure, no phones in our hands most of the time, just genuine conversation and laughter. The weather was also perfect, with a cool breeze after a hot day. Looking back, I realised that you don't need to spend a lot of money to have a great time. Good company is what really matters. We enjoyed it so much that we've now promised to make it a monthly tradition.
Part 3 discussion
What do young people in your country usually do in the evenings?
It varies, but many young people hang out with friends at cafés or street food stalls, especially in cities. Some play sports like football or cricket, while others go to coaching centres or tuition. Of course, a lot of them also spend their evenings on social media or playing online games.
Is it important to spend time with friends?
Yes, definitely. Friends provide emotional support and help us cope with stress. Spending time together also improves our social skills and creates memories we value for life. Without friendships, I think people would feel much more isolated, especially in today's busy world.
Do people spend less time with their friends now compared to the past?
I'd say yes, at least in person. Busy work schedules, traffic, and long study hours make it hard to meet regularly. Also, people now chat online so often that they feel less need to meet face to face. Ironically, even when friends do meet, many are still busy on their phones.
Do you think online friendships are as valuable as real-life friendships?
They can be valuable, especially for people who share specific interests or live far away from others. However, I believe real-life friendships are usually deeper, because you can actually be there for each other in difficult times. Online friendships work best as an addition, not a replacement.
What kind of activities are good for groups of friends?
Activities that encourage interaction are the best, like playing sports, board games, cooking together, or going on short trips. Even something simple like a picnic or a long walk can be great. The key is choosing activities where everyone can take part and enjoy each other's company.
