Part 2 model answer
One of the most important decisions I've made was moving from my hometown to Dhaka to continue my studies. I made this decision about four years ago, right after finishing my SSC exams.
At that time, I was living with my family in a small district town, where the educational opportunities were quite limited. There were only a couple of decent colleges, and very few good coaching centres or libraries. Many of my seniors had moved to Dhaka and told me how much better the facilities were. So I started thinking seriously about it.
It wasn't an easy decision, though. I had never lived away from my family before, and I was worried about feeling lonely, managing my own expenses, and handling daily life by myself. My parents were also a bit hesitant at first, mainly because of the cost and safety concerns. To make the decision, I made a simple list of the pros and cons. I also talked to a few seniors who were already studying in Dhaka, and they gave me realistic advice about living costs and accommodation. Finally, I had a long conversation with my parents, and once they saw how serious I was, they agreed to support me.
Looking back, it was definitely the right decision. In Dhaka, I've had access to much better teachers, resources, and opportunities. I've also become far more independent and responsible, because I had to learn to manage money, cook simple meals, and solve problems on my own. Of course, I still miss my family a lot, but this decision has shaped who I am today, and it opened doors that I never would have had back home.
Part 3 discussion
What important decisions do people have to make in their lives?
People face many important decisions, such as choosing what to study, which career to follow, and where to live. Later in life, decisions about marriage, buying a house, and raising children become important. Financial decisions, like saving or investing money, also have long-term effects. These choices can shape a person's entire future.
Do you think it is good to ask others for advice before making a decision?
Yes, I think it's very helpful, especially when the decision is important. Other people, especially those with experience, can point out things we might have missed. However, it's important not to rely completely on others' opinions. In the end, we're the ones who have to live with the consequences, so the final decision should be our own.
Why do some people regret their decisions?
People often regret decisions that they made too quickly or under pressure from others. Sometimes, things simply don't turn out as expected, even after careful planning. People may also regret missing opportunities because they were too afraid to take a risk. However, regret can be useful if it helps people make better choices in the future.
Is it harder for young people to make decisions today than in the past?
In some ways, yes. Young people today have many more options, like different careers, online jobs, and studying abroad, which can make choosing more confusing. They also face pressure from social media, where everyone seems successful. In the past, there were fewer choices, and families often made decisions for young people.
Should young people be allowed to make their own decisions?
Yes, I believe so, especially as they grow older. Making their own decisions helps young people become independent, confident, and responsible. Even if they make mistakes, they can learn valuable lessons from them. However, parents and teachers should still offer guidance and support, especially for major life decisions.
