Part 2 model answer
My biggest long-term goal is to build a large online platform that helps Bangladeshi students learn English easily and affordably. I'd like it to include vocabulary tools, practice tests, and speaking lessons, all in one place, and accessible from a mobile phone.
I decided on this goal about two years ago, when I was struggling with my own English preparation. I noticed that most good resources were either too expensive or designed for people with computers and fast internet. Students from small towns and villages, in particular, didn't have access to proper guidance. That really frustrated me, and I thought, why not create something that solves this problem?
To achieve this goal, I've already taken a few steps. I've been learning web and app development, mostly through free online courses, and I've built a few small projects using just my phone. I'm also creating my own study materials, which I share online, and the positive feedback has been really encouraging. My plan is to first improve my own English by getting a high IELTS score, and then gradually expand my projects. In the future, I'd like to build a small team of teachers and developers, and maybe find investors to help the platform grow.
This goal is really important to me because I know how it feels to want to learn but not have the right resources. If I can help even a few thousand students improve their English and open new opportunities for themselves, I'll feel that my work truly matters. I know it's going to take years of hard work, but I'm determined to keep moving forward step by step.
Part 3 discussion
Why is it important to have long-term goals?
Long-term goals give people direction and purpose in life. They help people make better decisions about how to use their time and money. Without goals, it's easy to feel lost or waste time on unimportant things. Long-term goals also keep people motivated, especially during difficult times.
Do young people today have different goals from those of their parents?
Yes, quite different. Many parents in Bangladesh valued stable government jobs, owning land, and starting a family early. Young people today often want more freedom, such as starting their own businesses, freelancing, or studying abroad. Technology has opened up new career paths that simply didn't exist before.
Why do some people give up on their goals?
People often give up because progress takes longer than they expected, and they lose motivation. Financial problems, family responsibilities, and lack of support can also get in the way. Sometimes, people set goals that are unrealistic in the first place. Fear of failure and criticism from others can also discourage them.
Should parents help their children set goals?
Yes, parents can play a helpful role by guiding children and helping them understand their strengths and interests. However, they shouldn't force their own dreams onto their children. The best approach is to support children in setting their own goals and to encourage them along the way.
Is it better to have short-term goals or long-term goals?
I think both are necessary. Long-term goals give the bigger picture and a sense of purpose, while short-term goals break that big picture into manageable steps. Achieving small goals regularly keeps people motivated. So the best approach is to set a long-term goal and then plan short-term goals that lead towards it.
